My 3 Year old - He's No Mr Patato Head !!!?

My 3 year old is a very fussy eater. He won't eat much of anything but snacky sort of stuff like crackers and cheese. He does eat fruit (mostly pears) but will not eat any vegies at all.

I have tried to do them on pizza and hide them in other things - but it doesn't work he refuses to eat it.

I have tried to refuse him anything til he eats his meal but he just goes to bed hungry then wakes up starving in the middle of the night.

Sometimes if he tries to eat mash or something he gags and spits it out.

I want him to eat healthy - any other suggestions?

Thanks for your help

  1. try letting him help you in the kitchen by getting the plate and the veggies let him help with setting up the veggies make fun designs(sun his name) also try with a dip or peanut butter dont forget to eat some off his plate too to convince him  they are yummy! good luck

  2. I know there is nothing more nutritional then veggies. However many children have this same problem. They just haven't aquired the taste for them yet. They really do not like them. What we do is ask them to try one bite, if then they say they do not like them, we settle at that. As long as they are getting there carbs and protien they will be fine. If you fear they aren't getting enough vitamins, give them a daily vitamin.

  3. my sister put smarties (or m&m's) in mashed potato and tells her daughter she has to eat through to get to them...

make meals interesting, if he like tunas, mix some mash and vegies with it and make the shape of a whale or something, also let him help make his dinner by mixing or chopping softer vegies with a blunt knife...

Also, try raw vegies rather than cooked ones, kids love food that's crunchy!

IDEA! i make volcanoes with my 3 year old daughter we make a pile of mixed mash and vegies then we cover it with mince and tomato sauce or gravy, my daughter loves it!

    hope I helped!

  4. Chocolate straberries (maybe jelly of strawberry)

Convince him that tomatoes are fruits

give him milk... or a fruit smoothie made of milk or yogurt, just dont tel;l him. say its good and is sugary and make it look delicious.

use the japanese style of cooking, making the meal set in a way that looks appealing to the eye, and set it up so that buns contain very yummy fruits or vegetables lightly salted in salt or sugar

  5. Have you got enough room to grow a few vegies at home, even if its just a few carrots or tomatoes in pots? He might be more inclined to eat them if he grows and picks them himself? My 2 yr old loves eating vegies that we've picked from the garden.

He also started eating more vegies when I got him some toy food to play with, he would only eat potato and broccolli before and now happily eats carrots, corn, peas, beans, and some others too.

Its great that he eats fruit so definately give him all the pears he wants! I like the fruit smoothie suggestion, thats a fantastic idea!
