My 3 month old is teething... i was wondering if it is uncommon for them to come through in the back first.. ?

i was reading something that says that normally the front teeth come in first.. and his gums are swollen in the back.. i know this question sounds silly

  1. This is not a silly question.  Each child is different and their teeth may come in in a different order.  True, oftentimes the front ones come in first. But they are all budding underneath and will pop through eventually.  The order is less important.   It isn't rare or unheard of to have the back ones first.  If concerned, talk to you pediatrician or dentist.  


  2. The gums may be red and swollen in the back but there is no telling which teeth come in first until they actually poke through. You may be surprised which ones are first. My son cut his bottom front teeth first but every kid is different and anything is possible.  

  3. It is possible but unlikely. My 4 month olds gums are just like your baby's. It feels like the back ones will come first. Heres a list of when they are meant to get which teeth:

    6-7 months - Two central bottom & Two central top teeth.

    7-9 months - Top & bottom; making four top & four bottom teeth in all.

    10-14 months - Double teeth for chewing

    15-18 months -  The pointed teeth or “fangs”

    2-3 years - The second set of double teeth at the back
