My 3 year old Manx has suddenly (within the last 3 days) gone off food. She barely drinks any water either.

She's also very lethargic, which is totally unusual for her (normally goes everywhere at a dead run). We didn't figure out that she was the one throwing up clear/yellow foam til yesterday (Saturday...we have one other cat, so we had to sit and watch to see who it was). Poor thing is dehydrated now... She's going to the vet first thing in the morning. With these symptoms, is this a case of her getting into something she shouldn't have (I'm thinking probably so, and am searching the house for culprits)?

  1. Hi bknickles,

Sounds like you have a very serious Emergency issue with your kitty. Cats that don't eat or drink are in dire need of medical care, ASAP. If you can get your kitty to an Emergency Vet, I strongly advise it. If it were my cat I would not wait another 24 plus hours to have her seen by a professional.

All we can do is guess the source of the problem. It can range anywhere from her "getting into something" which is highly toxic, or that she has a blockage somewhere, intestinally. Whatever the cause, your kitty is in distress and in a very precarious position.

While Manx cats are prone to what is called "Manx Syndrome" where defecation and urination can be a huge problem, this usually shows up before the kitten is 4 months old. This being said, all of these possibilities need to go into the equation. You don't say if your Manx is a stumpy or a rumpy. The syndrome only occurs in rumpies with no tail at all, and a hollow where the tail should be.

Don't waste anymore time trying to search your home. Please find an ER or call your veterinarian right away and get your cat in. Dehydration is dangerous of course, and not eating for several days can cause liver damage which is quite complicated to fix.

Good luck with your Manxie, and please keep us posted.
