My 3 year old daughter locked the bathroom door from the inside....how do i open the door?

there is a hole in the front of the doorknob...im assuming the hole is for just such a situaton....i put a bobby pin into the hole but i cant figure out what im supposed to be doing

You are supposed to press with some force inside the door-k**b-hole to unlock the door.  Perhaps a rigid rod or a wooden stick would be better to use than a bobby pin.

A bobby pin is not going to work, you need something strong like a nail to press the button in, and force the nob open.  No need to break down the door!

aww! try oiling up the k**b and in between the cracks or just unscrew the door k**b. and if all doesnt work, break it down. good luck!

With our doors, I use a wooden match and just push the match inward.  That should unlock it but if not, get a screwdriver and take the screws out of the hinges and lift the door off.  There won't be any damage and you can put the door back.  You might try taking the lock off the door until she is older.  Or get a lock that you know how to unlock from the outside.

If the lock is one of those push in ones, and there's only a small hole on the other side, all you need to do is stick the bobby pin in to push the lock out. If nothing happens, the bobby pin might be too short, so try for something longer... maybe a wire clothes hanger or something.

You may need something stiffer than a bobby pin.  A small screwdriver or a coathanger bent straight works for most doors.

All you have to do is push in a small button inside.

You may need to turn the handle while pushing inside the k**b.

If that doesn't work, you may need a small flathead screwdriver.  Some doors have a small s***w inside that needs a quarter turn.  These are much less common though.

Once you find out what opens the door, you may want to keep one above the door frame, especially if its the second option.

First off      RELAX!          If you have any canned ham at home that has the key to open it, you could use that.  They make what is called a hall key for these doors.  My 2 year old daughter has done the same thing twice now.  The first time I used an arist paint brush to open the door, (just push).   The next time I talked her through how to open the door herself.  It was time she learned how to get herself through a door.  Maybe you could talk your daughter through the same steps of how to unlock and open the door.  If all else fails, get a screwdriver and take the k**b off the door.

Use a credit card, it's an inside door, so there's no gasket so it shouldn't be a problem. About that hole, I think you're just supposed to apply pressure straight through and push.

sIf your bobby pin fails you, then you'll have to unscrew the door k**b and take it off to get the door open, its pretty easy, then just put it back on. Good luck with the 3 year old!

I did that once when I was around 3 or 4 but my parents talked me through how to unlock the door again. Could you perhaps tell her how to unlock it the way she locked it, from the other side of the door? Get her to calm down first if she's scared.

it might be like the door like that i have. inside the lock it has a little thing that sticks out and it has a slot for what i would describe as a miniture flathead screwdriver.  so basically you need something that is small enough to go in there and then find that little slot, ( you know that its there because it sticks out and you can hit that and stop going but if you move around it theres more room on all the sides) and then turn it one way or the other.   if you wear glasses, the little screwdriver that came w/ that would work just fine.

try picking the lock. and if you can't you have two choses: 1. break open the door. 2. call a locksmith.
