My 3 yr old sister always makes me read books 2 her in car?

whenever we go anywhere in the car my sister asks me to read books to her. i will read one or two, but she makes me read them the whole ride or she'll throw a tantrum! usually i'll be listening to music or talking with someone or sleeping and so it is really bothering me now. what should i do?

Aww, she loves you! Good for her, for wanting to hear books, and good for you, for reading them to her... You're helping to instill a life-long love of books. :)

But, she'll have to learn that you simply can't read to her, all the time... That will mean sitting through some tantrums, as patiently as you can... She will come to understand that you will read them once, maybe twice, in the car, and then she can look at it, all she wants... Good luck!

Tell your mom that you don't want to read the entire car ride and make your mom deal with the tantrum, it is her child not yours.

Either get mom to deal with it, or get her to go to the library before the trip and get books on tape.

This is the age where children need to start understanding everything doesn't go their way.  It is also the age that they understand requests and should know how to make choices.  Before the trip, tell your sister that you are not going to read to her the whole trip.  Tell her you will read 3 or 4 books and have her pick out those books.  Read those books to her and when they are done don't read anymore.  Sometimes my little one will want to read all of his books when we start reading and after reading a few, then I ask him to read them to me.  He'll open the book and talk about the pictures and recite what he remembers.  You could also get some toys like view finder or the small doodle etch-a-sketch boards that come with the stylo to draw and doodle on to keep her occupied.
