I see you are new to Yahoo Answers.... Congrats for joining !!  :))

Well,  There is not much telling what is wrong with your camera.... and most people here... if they are not repair techs, cannot tell you either.   The best advice you got is not to force it.  Especially the shutter on that FM10.... as most of the parts on that camera are plastic and cannot take any stress or strain.

It is better if you take your camera in to a repair shop and ask the tech for an estimate of the repairs.  Believe it or not... the simplest thing on a camera can be pretty expensive and most of the expense is due to labor charges.

I work with a camera repair technician who is pretty good.   He can look at a camera and tell - right on the spot what the problem is.   If you have a good repair guy,  he should be able to let you know how long it will take to repair and how much it is going to cost you.

I sounds like it has become jammed .. don't force it ... Most camera repair shops can repair that problem.  It is not very usual that the film advancing (and shuttercocking) does that ...

is the lever stuck in the end of the turn when you advance the film of locked in the normal position?  The fm10 doesn't have the best reputation and is actually made by cosina and branded by nikon (sorry if you didn't know).  I would recommend popping the back and making sure there aren't any obstructions in where the film would make contact with the gears.  Other than that I don't know what to tell you.  If its a simple spring that needs replacing it could be replaced for 2 dollars at your local camera shop. Or a snapped internal piece could cost more.  Do you remember when it stopped functioning? Have you dropped it or mistreated it in any way? How old is it?  All cameras only last so long, especially lower end models
