My '05 Highlander manual says I should have certain things inspected at 30k miles, should I?

39,000 miles

I never these things below at 30k miles, should I just skip to what the manual recommends at 40k45k? Are these things that important that I should pay my dealer who knows how much just to "inspect" these items?

Inspect the following:

Automatic transmission fluid

Ball joints and dust covers

Brake lines and hoses

Brake linings/drums and brake pads/discs 7

Drive shaft boots

Engine coolant 8

Exhaust pipes and mountings

Front differential oil

Fuel lines and connections, fuel tank band and fuel tank vapor vent system hoses

Fuel tank cap gasket

Radiator, condenser and/or intercooler

Rear differential oil (except 2WD)

Steering gear box

Steering linkage and boots

Transfer case oil (4WD)

It is necessary to perform the recommended service to keep your warranty in affect.  This does not mean you have to go to the dealer, but the dealer can perform any additional warranty service (if noted) at the same time.  Shop your prices and always keep records.  If anything ever happens outside of warranty, a factory rep will request evidence of service as one of the criteria for Goodwill adjustments outside of warranty.

Well, the dealership won't honor any warranty repairs if you don't play along. If you like your warranty and want to get help if something does go wrong get the service done. You might not even have to do it at the dealership. I know a friend who does it at a different shop and he just keeps the receipts to show he hasn't slacked off and voided his warranty.

I can't speak for any other dealer, but if you come to mine and ask for a 25 point check, most of these items will be looked at anyway. For free. Just show them your manual and ask them to do the checks. If there is a charge you will know beforehand.
