My '94 ski-doo backfired and now won't start?

My husband and I just got this '94 ski-doo from a friend. We started it today and it backfired and now we can't get it to start. I'm wondering what the problem could be? I'll will take all the help I can get.

It sounds like your engine flooded. On the ski doo's I have found that pulling the key and giving it about 10 good pulls usually cleans out the engine. After that replace the key and pray that it starts. If that doesn't work you may have blown a piston or it could just be a carburetor.

How long has it been since it was last started up? If it was more than three months, then it is probably the carburetor.
