My '98 nissan sentra has an oil leak really bad.about much will it cost to get it fixed?

we have to put oil in it like every few days cause if not,it pulls&almost doesn't run well.totally wasting money on oil!

Your leak is probably coming from the oil sending unit, sometime called an oil pressure switch (Part shouldn't be but about $7-$10). Place a large  piece of cardboard under the engine, to see where the leak is cooming from. If it is leaking toward the back of the engine it could be the switch. Not very expensive to repair. Talk to guys you know, many could replace this. you just unplug a wire, s***w out the old and s***w in the new. I've been there, done that! If it is leaking near right front wheel (Passenger side), it is highly possible it is the front oil seal. This is a little more involved, but can be done with the engine still in the car. The part is cheap($2 -$20) I have done this twice. Belts need to be removed and main crank pulley, pry out the old, clean the area good, pop in the new one reassemble. about 2 hrs work! There are other possibilities, but these are the problems I have had, and are not uncommon! You could take it to a few mechanics for an estimate(many give free estimates,call ahead) and if they all say it is the same thing, then you can bet that they have made the correct diagnosis.

There is more to life than computers and cellphones.  

You can most likely do it your self with help from someone that knows what they are doing. Even if you bought the jack, jack stands and wrenches yourself, you could do it easily for less than $300.

Take it to a shop and they will find other stuff that will need repair. Especially a woman.  Some may actually be needed!

My wife took  car to a shop in Shady Side, MD while I was away and they wanted to charge her $950 to fix it. That was after charging her for replacing plugs and wires which any competent mechanic would know would not cause the engine to die on the road. He got really upset when I challenged his methods. I asked why he replaced the parts and he told me he wanted to get it running to to find out what was wrong. I told him It doesn't run!! that is what is wrong.  I told her to have it towed home . I replaced the coil for $50. I showed her the old spark plugs and she said they were not the ones the mechanic showed her.

The guy was either an incompetent fool, or a thief and liar. Either way, you are at his mercy if you don't know what you are doing, or have a friend that does.

No less than$1000.00 trust me ive delt with this problem a ton of times on several different vehicles see theyll usually have to remove/take apart the engine to get to the problem area which is why youll get charged an (arm & leg) although you might get lucky to where the leak is in an area which doesn't require the engine to be taken apart hopefully the mechanics will be honest. . . . .GOOD LUCK
