was in the yard, the landlady, that's she's scared unexpectedly of came in to have a chat ,daughter locked the door, spent about 10 minutes talking to her nicely to open the door and she did. After crying and finally getting her clothes on,as she s taught not to go to the door without clothes.

How would you have handled the situation?

  1. The better question here is why are you leaving your 3 year-old child unsupervised in the home long enough for her to do something like lock the door? You're quite lucky nothing worse happened as it takes just as long to light a match, drink chemicals from under the sink, etc. as it would to come to the door and lock it.

  2. She probably did a good thing. She must be being taught well from you and listening to you when you say stay away from strangers. I would've handled the situation the same way as you.

  3. You can't punish her for locking the door on someone she is scared of!  Heck, that is a good thing!  Don't leave the house without a set of keys?!  My best friend was locked out by her toddler, had to call the fire dept.  They were about to break the door down when a neighbor kid came by.  She crawled through the doggie door and unlocked the front door!

  4. the best thing to do is ask her why she was scared... when she answers that then question her if you don't understand.... and explain to her that you of course would never let anything happen to her and make sure you both understand trust (even though she is 3, they are at the age of who is good and bad)

make sure she also understand that she shouldn't ever lock you out... in case something bad were to happen

be calm when speaking to her as well

  5. locking a stranger out is a good thing but if my child locked me out and knows he/she locked me out, id slap the shiet out of her/him

  6. tear that *** up!

  7. I do not think she deserves to be punished for locking the door if she was scared. You need to talk to her and tell her that when mommy says its ok to open the door it is. Just have a talk with her

  8. To me, she did a good thing. She saw a stranger and kept herself safe.
