The kitten was taken from it's mother at about 3 -4 weeks old. We bottle fed it until it would eat cat food. She is a full-time indoor cat and shares the house with my 14 year-old cat, 5 year-old daughter, and myself.
It has become a nightmare. First she chewed the shoe strings off my shoes about 2 months ago. I didn't think much about that. Then a couple weeks later she threw up a green string from one of my daughter's toys. Then I found a huge hole in my daughter's shirt that was in a folded stack of laundry that had not gotten put away.
Now it is something new everyday. Tonight it was the blanket my daughter sleeps with. Then I caught her under the bed chewing up my bedspread.
I already have 2 rooms shut up all the time. She still has most of the house and the basement. Tonight is the first time I have ever seen her chew on anything. She must do this while we are asleep or away.
My 5 year old is very upset. She loves the cat, but the blanket was a gift from her favorite cousin and is priceless.
We live in a small town where we do not have an animal behavior specialist. I really don't want to get rid of the animal, but I don't see many other options. I am a single mother working 6 days a week and don't have the time to pick everything up everynight so the cat doesn't destroy things.
I need some answers fast. I've read a little about something called PICA, but not much about solutions to the problem.
