Question:

My 4 month old kitten has started spraying?

My kitten has just started spraying, but he is too young to get neutered, I have just phoned the vet and he said the earliest he can have the operation is the first week in November. His whole attitude has changes as well, he is really nasty to our other cat and just attacks us for no reason (which he never used to do), so I am sure his hormones have now kicked in.

Do you have any ideas as to what I can do to prevent this happening.

The kitten is old enough to go outside and therefore does his toilets outside,( he cant get out of our garden, so is quite safe to go out), but the house is starting to smell. He has even done it on our leather suite which has now stained.

I would be grateful for ideas on preventing spraying, stains on leather and smells in house - if thats not too greedy.

  1. He might just be trying to get attention or something. But get him neutered as soon as you can. Try to keep all clothes in drawers and not to leave anything on the ground. If you are worried about furniture cover it in plastic

  2. once they start spraying they don't stop, even when castrated. spraying is a learned thing and usually learned by other cats when they are for example let outside before they are neutered(which does prevent a cat from spraying, but not always).

  3. My male cats have always been neutered at around 4 months so you might want to call a different vet for their opinion. It may just be that the vet you called is currently too busy right now.

  4. he is not too young at all..call another vet..get this done before this becomes a habit
