My mom has been here for 4 yr.s, and her citizenship test is coming, but her english is still not the best it can be. She wants to read books to help her get use to everyday english. What are some good books that she can read? I'm in sixth grade and I have books like Harry Potter series and the Da Vinci Code, but those are too complex for her. Please help!!!

  1. Many children's books will help with her reading improvement and understanding of English but many adults don't want to feel like they are not smart so they refrain from reading children's books.  That is a shame actually.  She can also read things that deal with TOEIC, which is also used to actually test.  Good luck.

  2. try to get her involved in something called "english as a second language".You can ask at the library,or see onlinehow to go about doing it.Talking is the best.Try a "d**k and JANE" book, and explain it to her,and see if she can say it back to you.About the citizenship,I know many people who are not so fluent in English and pass.I think its great that you want her to learn the English language,Go slow, and practice.

  3. Try some books from the Penguin Readers series. They are written and designed specifically for adults learning English. Most are fiction and include topics adults would enjoy reading about. They even have popular books like John Grisham novels and made them easier to read. They are also leveled so you can determine which books might best meet her needs. Here is a link to many choices on Amazon.com.

Good for you for encouraging your mom and helping her out!

  4. There are allot of children's books, at the local libraries.

These books are designed to teach reading skills, grammar and proper social skills.
