But anyway the company im working for offers 401k however there are different 401k savings plan investment funds and i dont know which one to choose. They match upto 5% but i dont understand why i have to choose these funds? whats the purpose??? Theres about 25 funds to choose from such as short-term fixed income fund, large cap value index fund, international large cap value fund, company common stock fund, and aggressive lifestyle portfolio. So which one?! additional info about this kind of plan would be great.

  2. All depends on your age:  The follow would be a good fit

for someone between 30-45.  If you are younger be more aggresive.

    10% Fixed Income

    10% Company Stock

    20 % International

    10% Aggresive

    25% Largr Cap

    25% Value

  3. Should should be getting paperwork explaning the goals of these investments.  They were made for a reason and those reasons should be in what is called a prospectus which should fully explain the fund including the makeup of the fund, the fees and the recent growth or loss.  If you are still at a loss, you should have access to a contact person.

Pick the aggressive lifestyle portfolio if the fee is less than 1.5%.  It should have a year next to it (like 2010, 2020,2030).  Pick the year closest to retirement.  To be more aggressive pick one farther ahead.  Those funds put more new money into bonds as you get closer to that date.  Midcaps (SP400 for example) should be your second choice.  The large cap 500 should be your third choice.
