I got my cat at 2 months old, and heard from my friend that they were all eating dry food before they left(I tried to know the brand but the cat came from a friend from a friend). When he arrived he wouldn't eat at all, after 3 days I give him milk(I know it's bad but he was so weak) he did drink the milk, then my goal was to make him eat wet because it easier to mix with milk, after maybe a week he was eating only wet food. He's been eating that since, I tried to mix dry food and wet and it doesn't work, I even smash it to powder, but just the smell make him turn away, I tried 3 brands, two cheap and one healthy for him. I live in a really small town and don't have a car, the vet is 1 hour away, and they're no possible way I can go right now(the vet is also on vacation). I don't want to hear that dry food is bad for him, I can't afford wet food, that's why I'm asking for help!

I did see a vet three month ago for him not eating, she's the one who said to mix the milk with dry food, and my cat doesn't have worm(he's been treated) or teeth problem, he's been vaccinated. I also never saw him drink water and his water doesn't go down?? I do clean and give fresh bottle water everyday. Thank for your help, I want the best for my cat but I just can't afford it. Thanks again!

  1. I wonder if you have valid reasons to wean your cats off wet food. If it's because of convenient, I would suggest that you try to place your cats health over your own needs. If it's because of price, please understand that what your cat eat will determine their quality of life and in the long run, save your many expensive trips to the vet. If it's because all cats eat dry food after kittenhood, take a moment to visit this website:-

This may not be the answer you are looking for, but I am just suggesting that you try to rethink your decision after doing your own research into why cat needs wet food and why dry food is detrimental to their health.

If after careful consideration, you still think that you have to feed your cat dry food, then go for the best and highest quality product in the market:-

You already have some answers on how to wean the cats off wet and onto dry. My suggestion would be, feed a combo of wet and dry. Please do not deprive your cats of a wet diet. You can do 50/50 or better yet 80(wet)/20(dry).

P/S : Personally, I hate to give this advice but I do understand that it is difficult to convince people to change their mind. All I can say is that you make the choices for your cat, and as a result, you are the sole person responsible should his diet resulted in health complications along the way.

I love to say this whenever someone ask this question.

Look at your cats. They are majestic animals, with their wild ancestors blood still running through their veins. They are predators, equip with sharp canine teeth to shred through meat. Now, imagine a lion or a tiger, feasting on a bowl of dry kibble. Does that sound right to you? Well, now you know why it is so ridiculous to feed your cat dry kibbles!

Domestication only changes the way the cats live but not the way the cats eat. If we cannot guarantee their wellbeing, we have no right to invite them into our home.
