My 5 year old confessed in a round about way that she got p**p on her hand when wiping and decided to taste it!!! I couldnt believe a child that age couod do such a thing! Is this normal? Isnt she too old for that kind of curiosity? I am afraid she has mental problems or something. At least she said she didnt like it! I would feel better about it if someone knew anything about this. Is she too old? Could there be something wrong?

  1. she's fine!  we all do things that are kind of peculiar... things we dont want other to know about, especially if they turn out really nasty.

dont just fly off the handle and think your kid has "mental problems" because of curiosity.  there are signs of developmental delay, and curiosity is not one of them.  if she shows significantly slower progression in her studies than her peers, or if she throws fits on a regular basis about things another 5 year old wouldn't, or if she develops any long term unusual habits or harmful habits, you might - and i stress MIGHT - want to keep an eye out.

kids eat wierd things... beetles, spiders, p**p, paint chips, grass, leaves, bark, rocks, crackers they find on their floor, and when they get older they made unusual concoctions on of regular food.  it's just experimenting.  let her know, however, that p**p can make you sick and that she should think before she puts things in her mouth next time.

    :)

  2. Well maybe as you think she has mental problems or she might just have a very high level of curiosity. To find out which one she might have get her tested (to see if she has mental problems).Or take her to a counselor and see if the counselor thinks it is just very high curiosity. If none of this helps I  suggest you take her to see a doctor.

  3. looks like chocolate. i'm sure she's not damaged. just curious. don't kill her curiosity just because you don't like it.

  4. She's normal, kids that age do off-the-wall things sometimes. It's not much different than a kid who decides on a whim to taste dirt, or an earthworm!

Just keep an eye on her to make sure she does not get sick. The human bowels naturally harbor all kinds of funky bacteria and parasites, which are harmless while confined in the bowels, but can make us sick if consumed. A little taste probably did not hurt, but keep an eye on her, and call your doctor right away if she seems to be getting sick or has a change in appetite.

  5. Nothing wrong with her, she was jsut curious.Haven't you ever done something and later regretted it, but it was out of curiosity? At least she can really say now , when she doesn't like something you fix for a meal, "this tastes like sh**", then she will know what she is talking about. See, she's getting smarter already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. I guess it didn't smell bad enough to not taste!
