what should I do about it? Wait for it to come out or have the dentist pull it? Has anyone had this happen to them before? Or do the baby teeth tend to get dark as they come out, it just seems like there is a dark spot on the back of his tooth though...

  1. If he did by any chance have trauma to the baby tooth take him into the dentist and have them take a look at it.  they most likely not do much since he is 5 and he could loose it really soon.  They might take an xray of it to see if there is anything going on at the end of the root.  They might reccomend watching it to see if he developes any pain, sensitivity, or a bubble at the end of the root.  But I would definetly have it looked at sooner then later.  Since it is a baby tooth and he is 5 they wouldn't get involved with doing a "baby root canal"  it would either be extracted if it starts causing him problems or if not, just let mother nature do her job

  2. If the tooth is loose and the tooth isn't hurting you should just leave it alone or have your child start wiggling it so it will come out.  At this stage the tooth will not effect the child's permanent tooth.

  3. If your child is not in pain, you can probably leave it alone until his/her next dental appointment.  My kids lost their teeth really late so even a front tooth cavity at age five would have been filled.  Good luck!
