i don't know where the question came from, but she asked it in her childs innocence and patiently awaited an answer from me. luckily for me while i sat there flabbergasted her mother turned the question to ask her why she wanted to know. we were caught off guard, i think that she deserves a better answer but i don't know how so any help would be appreciated.

  1. quite normal! I agree, get her a book and maybe a real life doll!

  2. something is up with her school and needs to stopped! because of my friends at school, i knew just about everything at the age of 8. just tell her that you will tell her in 30 years.

  3. Our kids (2 girls/1 boy) saw us naked when they were little and when they had questions they asked and we explained only what they could understand.  Quite frankly, they probably don't even remember but considering they see one another naked on a regular basis, it isn't a big deal to them.  However, our oldest daughter will soon be hitting puberty and it will be a big deal to her.  That one to me is harder than a 5 year old asking about what body parts look like.  The more you make of it, the more she will too.

  4. Always answer such questions with questions.  Be slow to answer.

  5. What's up with people saying she wouldn't understand?

Honestly, your question is only a big deal because adults make it a big deal.  Not saying anything against you...it's a normal reaction.  Just think about WHY it's such a big deal to answer that question.  It really shouldn't be.

You got some good suggestions.  Remember that your attitude towards these questions will decide how she seeks out information about it in the next few years.  You would rather she learn from you than from the kid who has a 10 year old brother that doesn't know anything except crude jokes.

  6. I would say 'kinda like a little ball and bat, you know about baseball, right?'

My 5 year old nephew always wants money for the tampon machine.

They are just curious about everything and she might forget all about it after you explain to her.  Just give her enough to satisfy her.

They have those human body books for kids that have the see through plastic body that you can take out the bones and nervous system etc.  I got that for both my nephew because they wanted to know how what they eat goes through their body and comes out as p**p and pea.

We google pictures of lungs of cigarette smokers too, cuz I want them to know what smoking does to their lungs.  We don't into any great detail.....just as much as it takes...

Their curiosity is beautiful and embarrasing!

Good Luck and remember, when she is fifteen she will be the one too embarassed to ask YOU!

  7. Ask a child specialist. I grew up with five sisters (6 girls, no brothers). We never wondered what boys looked like. It soooo wasn't important! Has she seen a dog's wiener sticking out or something? If so, tell her it pretty much looks like that! She'll be grossed out and wont want to think about it again!

  8. idk, make sure nothings happening to her in private that would make her so curious all of a sudden, the best thing to do would be to simply draw picture of one for her, no details and this would give her a general idea

p.s. have her mom do it and not you, its a girls thing

  9. Keep it simple! Boy parts are mainly on the outside and girl's

    aren't etc.

  10. tough one...

Your daughter doesnt really understand because she is 5...

but if you want to talk to her about it but in a way she will understand

  11. you better tell her what it is. or else she will ask others about it. its better if you tell her immediately

  12. At the age where being a girl or being a boy becomes important in a child's mind they have a normal and natural curiosity about the other gender and what makes them different.  By 5 they figure out that the major differences are in the private area.  If she has ever seen a baby boy (cousin, brother, whoever, have his diaper changed then she can be reminded that she already knows the answer.   Or she can be reminded of boy dogs she has seen.   If she has not by some chance seen any of those a "real baby" boy doll might be a good illustration.   Or you can simply tell her that boys pee and poo a lot like girls do except their pee place is larger and sticks out more.

  13. Get a book for her.  I mean like a "Mommy, where did I come from?" type book.  There is nothing wrong with her knowing what a "boy's privates" look like, as long as it's done in a non-sexual way.

  14. There's nothing wrong with this, it's just natural curiosity.  Draw her a picture of a LITTLE boy.  If you act weird about it, it'll give her the idea there's something wrong about it.

  15. like an elephants trunk but the elaphents trunk is evil ntil ur 18

  16. just explain her best u can, its natural after all

    x

  17. just tell her. get a boy doll or something

  18. It's just normal curiosity.  She probably overheard a kid at school or church or somewhere talk about it, and wants to know.  Remember, that's big news to a five-year-old, so when one figures out that boys and girls are different "down there," they want to go tell everyone they know.

  19. i would tell her when she is older and would understand more than i will tell her and besides she should'nt know what boys privates look like until  she is married.
