My 5 yr old son has two cavities and will not co-operate with any dentist he has been to.

I was wondering if we wait and not fill them, when they fall out and his adult teeth grow in will they have cavities?

  1. You may risk damage to his adult teeth- a cavity in a baby tooth can lead to decay in the under laying adult teeth- find a pediatric dentist

  2. no they wont but the cavity is going to get deeper if you dont get them filled

  3. there has to be a dentist in your area that is willing to work with your child just keep looking you have to get this problem resolved

  4. If you wait for them to fall out they will get deeper and hurt like h**l, and could cause damage to his adult teeth. You have to take him to the dentist NOW to have them filled. He needs to learn that going to the dentist is okay and that he needs to do it to be healthy. If he still throws a fit, they may try sedation.

  5. Sometimes dentists decide it's not necessary to fill a cavity in a baby tooth, but it depends on which tooth and how severe the cavity is.  If the dentist is saying it needs to be filled, it probably does.

Find a good pediatric dentist with a friendly-looking office.  Read some books to your son about going to the dentist.  Let him know that he does have to cooperate (and that if he doesn't he's going to start having toothaches), and that after he gets the cavity filled you can go do something fun.

And ignore the incredibly obnoxious answer criticizing your parenting.  I didn't see where in your post you said you feed him tons of candy and juice.  Some people are genetically more predisposed to cavities, and some people don't live somewhere where water is fluoridated.  You may want to talk to the dentist about a fluoride rinse or something to prevent more cavities.  If you're not already doing it, you may want to make sure you're taking a turn after he brushes.  5-year-olds typically don't do the most thorough of jobs.

  6. No, the cavities will affect the adult teeth.

  7. wow great job mom you are supposed to protect your child from junk food and instead you give them candy and juice... YOU GET THE MOM OF THE YEAR AWARD...

i hope you feel like c**p because you did this to your child... just because they are baby teeth and Oh he can have a fresh start with his new teeth come in WELL TOO BAD he is probably addicted to sweets and juice and soda and OMG probably McDonalds...

my son is 1 year old and he has probably had in his life time 8oz of juice .....

NEVER EVER will i give him juice maybe one a month, thats horrible i cant believe what im reading. Im not even going to say nothing more...

Just watch what you give your child..> They dont know any better... Yogurt is a great way for something sweet and healthy... or fruids blended in a mixer
