My 55 gallon's top black plastic piece just like split/broke today. is my tank gonna bust?

i filled it all the way to the top & all of sudden i heard a loud pop. The black plastic piece in the middle broke. its like my tank is bulging on both sides. What causes this? Is my tank not any good? i bought it from someone today that said they had it for 2 years. Its in immaculate condition.

It don't sound good to me, I would ask for my money back. I've had tanks for years and never had that happen but I wouldn't take a chance of putting water and fish in it to come home and find it all over the floor.

Your tank shouldn't be bulging anywhere. I think is time for a new one. If all you need is the tank and you have everything else, I don't think the tank itself will cost very much. Good luck
