My 5lb puppy swallowed a muscle relaxer. What should I do?

He has thrown up alot but he now throwing up little. He still walks sideways and is a little dioriented. My vet is closed today.

  1. Find a er vet and have the puppy seen.  This is very serious and needs a vet attention.  


  2. Why would you ask that on here instead of calling your vet or taking him to the hospital? There are emergency rooms for pets.

  3. Does your vet have an emergency back-up?  They may be able to answer your question over the phone if you can tell them exactly how much and what kind... don't fool around with this as there may be other issues that could happen even though it looks like the initial symptoms are over.

  4. call a vet NOW!  your dog is probably overdosing, he could die from too much medication

  5. Don't wait for your vet to open tomorrow.  While many things that are OK for humans can also be OK for dogs, there are still foods/medicines that are toxic to dogs.  Find an ER animal hospital ASAP.  If your vet doesn't provide the name of one on their answering machine, search the yellow pages/online to find one that offers ER services.  Even though he's thrown up a lot and it seems to be slowing down, the vet may need to monitor his symptoms to ensure the meds don't cause residual effects.

  6. Look in the phone book for an emergency vet clinic. It can be very dangerous for the puppy and a vet needs to see it. I hope that he'll be OK.

  7. Call your vet or get to an animal emergency center! You have a small dog and you need to act immediately. Call the emergency vet and tell them what happened.

    And/Or, call Poison Control and see if they have some suggestions since it would be poison to children also. Good luck!  

  8. As long as he threw up right away he should be ok, just a little effed up for a while. If he had more then 15-20 min to digest it, get thee to an emergency vet. All cities have one, and if yours doesn't there is a vet somewhere that has an emergency number. Get the yellow pages. But my dad's 50 lb dog ate an entire bottle of methadone and he was fine. You should be ok but watch him closely
