My 5yr old daughter has a rash?

My 5 yr old daughter was off school for 2 days last week with a sore throat, my youngest child and I had a similar thing. She had a temperature which we were controlling with Calpol. Anyway, on friday she developed a rash, it looks like sunburn and is all over her. She had a small heat rash outbreak on her chest earlier in the week but this is different.

It's very red and not really bumpy. It's still there despite the temperature and sore throat going away. She's eating, drinking, playing etc fine. My concern is, the rash is now on the roof of her mouth and on her tongue. It's very hot to touch. I did try to call our GP but they had closed and I couldn't get through on the emergency number.

What do you think?

  1. Sometimes tonsillitus can be accompanied by a rash called scarlet fever.  But i would take her to the hospital just in case, its always better to be safe than sorry.  Have you done the glass test to check for menningitis.  Press a glass over the rash if it you cant see the rash then she's probably okay.  Its always better to check though.  Good luck xx

  2. do you have near by walk-in centre you could take her down to.

    if not

take her to the hospital because its better to be safe then sorry.

i think it may be a viral rash as she has a cough with it.

  3. strep throat would be my guess, lots of kids get a strep rash with strep throat  take her to the dr. untreated strep can lead to many problems.

  4. Hey,

I would call NHS direct, its free, confidential and open right now, plus you will be able to speak to a nurse after a call handler asks you a few questions to make sure the nurse has all the information she needs to help you.

If needed the nurse will be able to arrange an out of hours doctor to pay you a visit too.

The nurse will offer you useful and practical advice and offer you lots of reassurance.

    Hope she gets better soon.

    Best wishes

  5. it could be scarllett fever. I think I had that after strep throat years ago. I vaguely remember one of the symptoms being a red rash on the tongue.it could also be an allergic reaction to medication, or 5th disease.

  6. Ring NHS Direct, they will be able to give you some advice and arrange for a doc to call you.  If you are really concerned take her to A & E.  Better safe than sorry.  Could be scarlet fever see second link.

  7. get her to a doctor she could be having melgetis or it could be thrush.

  8. Sounds either like scarletina (scarlet fever) or any other rash/temperature related illness - measels.  There are many going around, but I agree with everyone else, call NHS immediately.

Please still call NHS 24.  The cough, with other symptoms sounds like scarlet fever.  However, each child suffers differently - please call them and go through the questions and answers with them.

  9. sounds like measles love. Does her eyes hurt with  the light if so try to keep her in the dark or at least a dim light then give NHS 24 a ring just to be on the safe side. If you're still worried you can take her down to your nearest hospital.

  10. have you 'googled'?

if you're seriously worried phone the hospital casualty dept. to ask for some advice

  11. That is bad. Take her and the other to the hospital immediately. Rash is serious news!

    EDIT: Meningitis?
