He's 6 and a half, and he has no ability to speak, read, write, recognize, or understand. He only copies what I say, and can never link what I say to what I'm teaching him. He also has a problem with paying attention to teaching. I've noticed that he learns by example, somewhat. If anyone knows what to do, please answer and explain how to teach him.

  2. 6 1/2? Where did he go to kindergarten?  He should have had a child study way before the age of 6 1/2 if his performance is like this! Why wasn't he tested for LD, MR, or Autism yet? What did his kindergarten teacher say about this? Don't stress yourself out about this alone. Let the teachers and parents help out.

  3. Read every children's picture book to him that you can get your hands on. How awesome it is that he has a sister like you.

  4. Has he been tested for some type of learning disability or communication disorder? There are certain milestones children reach as they develop. He should be speaking and communicating by now. Is there any way he could see his pediatrician? If you are willing to work with him be very patient and repeat your lessons as much as possible. He needs repitition and practice using fun games and activities that will hold his interest. Try to find your local book store or teacher supply store so you can get educational children's songs on tape. Please let me know if you need any more ideas. Thanks for helping him! Good luck.

  5. Get him out of public school or he will continue to be this way. They haven't helped him yet, they never will.

    believe me I know

  6. at 6 years old, I would say your brother has some kind of problem, but your parents need to get involved here and get him to a school and ask for him to be tested quickly.  You sound like you are doing a wonderful job, but this is not your responsibility.  It sounds like he needs more help.
