if i put them to bed earlier they wake an hour later and cant get back to sleep. They dont have any junk or sugery foods after dinner and the tv gets switched off at 7.30. Other remeties like calming meds are just useless. Although theyre happy to be put to bed, they cant log off. It's usually 9.30-10pm b4 they do.

Usually resulting in one going to bed with hubby and the other with me,even then us parents are dozing off but the kids just lye there frustrated cos they cant sleep. HELP!

  1. i have a 2 yr old and a 5 yr old. they are like that too. and i feel your frustration. ive found that going for a walk after dinner, and coming home and giving them a bath, and reading a story, helps calm them. they still play for a bit before they fall asleep, but thats normal. they arent old enought to understand that bed time is bed time. just develop a routine, and hopefully it will help them to calm down and get the hang of it. but i wouldnt keep putting them in bed w/ you. old habits are hard to break.

  2. Are they napping too much during the day? Maybe they just aren't tired at 8:30.

  3. hi we have 3 boys ourselves and for the first few years it was kinda hard putting them to bed early every night . then we decided 8 30 was a good time for bed . we would do small activities in the evening around home as a family including watching TV playing board games playing ps2 games together . then we realised to wear out the last of there energy they would sleep from 8 30 pm till 7 am all the time . kind regards father of 3.

  4. My pscho 2 & 4 year old are like that as well.  Even if you run them all day and put them in a dark quiet room they still go nuts.  I've always been a night lover so I'm wondering now if it's genetic.  It's not food, not sleep during the day, not lack of exercise - I'll be interested to see the other answers because it's really frustrating!!!

  5. If they're getting any caffeine after LUNCH time, then that could affect it. No soda should be given out after 1:30.

Do you guys go out and play during the day (or after school for the 6 y/o)? If you don't, I'd suggest it. When I was they're age, and I didn't play for at least a 1/2 hr, I'd go crazy right before bed.

Do they nap during the afternoon? Okay, so the four year old may need a nap every now and then, but if he/she is getting one every single day past 1:00, then they're gonna have extra energy. Try not to give he/she a lot of nap time.

    Hope I helped!

  6. ufortunatly we all work diffferantly the best bet is to leave them in there room alone to play read what ever with out the tv or vid games earlyier and evntualy they will change the pattern low lighting helps and keep them out of your bed ,

food additive and colourings have a lot to do with it to or cheat and give them a bit of sugar around 2 hrs before you want them assleep and a warm shower half and hr before bed that way they should hit the down cycle of the sugar and crash out .

  7. Maybe they aren't tired??

Kids don't need a bed time during the summer because they don't need to wake up early.

  8. I have 2 year-old twins. Same problem. it does not matter how tired are they during the day. If we put them to bed together it is like the cage of the monkeys in the zoo.

we ended up putting them to sleep one after the other.

The problem is in the morning around 5:30 when they are sleeping light and are waking each other just by turning in the bed.

  9. look into childrens meditation cd for sleep, Rescue remedy sleep , a warm bath and a warm drink.
