had no effect on his bladder infection. he has so far only had two doses of 2.5mls of it, and his temp just under and hour ago was 38.2c. i gave him nurofen. how long for this antibiotic to work? i know its a stronger antibiotic, but does it take the same amount of time to work as any other one? i just can't wait for him to start to recover, he has been like this for a week and had 3 visits to A&E as well.would it take anothe day or two to work?

  1. Urinary tract infections in young males are often associated with an underlying defect in the urinary tract, say a neurogenic bladder that doesn't completely empty, or an obstruction. High fever with chills and back pain often point to a kidney infection, not just a bladder infection. Kidney infections are more serious and should be investigated promptly and treated aggressively. I certainly hope that a urine culture has been obtained. If not, you need to insist on that.

Ciprofloxacin should be taken on an empty stomach with a glass of water. It is less effective when taken with food.

This is a situation where your son needs medical investigation as well as antibiotic treatment.

  2. onset: topical 0.5-2 h

    duration: topical 12 h

it says in the drug guide:

    - immediately report tendon inflamation or pain

    - fluid intake of 2-3 L/d if not contraindicated

    - report sudden, unexplained joint pain

    - restrict caffeine

    - report nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain or discomfort

    - food: calcium decreases the levels of ciprofloxacin

    - drug interactions with warfarin, iron, sulcralfate and theophylline (hope he's not taking any of those)

    - do not give an antacid within 4 h of the oral cipro dose

  3. You should call your doctor and ask him those questions as they would be familiar with your childs info.

  4. I am so sorry that your little boy is sick. Sometimes certain antibiotics do not work and other ones must be tried. Did they do a culture at his appointment? If this is his third antibiotic...that is not a good thing (poor little guy and poor you).

I don't know your circumstances, but in this case if it doesn't start to work in 3-5 days I would see a doctor (a specialist) to determine what this pathogen that is causing this infection could be. Treating it with the wrong antibiotic will not cure it if they do not know if it is resistant.

Also, if your son has recurrent infections that are not clearing up or gets more than you feel are normal for your little guy i.e.(respiratory (sinus, bronchitis, pneumonia), skin infections (cellulitis, boils, yeast problems), and any sort of other infections (bladder, kidney, eye)...please get him checked out by a pediatric immunologist. This may be more information than you need. But there are disorders (primary and secondary immune deficiencies) that can cause problematic infections without resolution. Blessings and may he get better soon.

On another note: Have you tried getting him on a good probiotic and cranberry juice too?

  5. as it has been said   Ask your Dr for information  he is the best source  for now

    Take care

  6. Antibiotics treat the infection itself, not the pain. Once the infection is gone, then the pain should be gone. It's really hard to say when the antibiotic will work. Because there is also the possibility that it won't. The only thing that I can tell you, is that he needs to finish the meds.
