Obviously, this will be a prescription. We will see the psychiatrist on Wednesday but the psychologist is leaning toward ADHD.

  1. Yes! I have ADHD and i have a patch called Daytrana. It works!

  2. I know there are chewable.  It really depends on what specific type of pill he/she suggests though I guess..

  3. I'm not sure what form the meds for adhd come in though it's great that you are also dealing with a psychologist as medication alone may not be enough.  You may have considered behavioral therapy or a reward system for cooperative behavior.  His school should be able to provide classroom support if your son is classified with some sort of learning or emotional problem.

The Child Study Team is a group of professionals at all public school systems and includes a school social worker (mostly gets family and medical history), school psychologist, learning disability teacher-consultant (LDTC), school psychiatrist (for the evaluation) and the child's current teacher.  If your son is classified, there would be an IEP (individualized education plan) with classroom and behavior goals.  Just fyi, in case weren't aware of those resources :)

  4. I have a student who is on the patch.  I didn't even know he had ADHD and was on a patch until his family ran out of them for a week.  I made a comment to his homeroom teacher about him being really unfocused and she told me he wasn't wearing his patch.  So it works for him.  :)

I also have a student who was taking it in the form of suckers, but the medicine was completely ineffective for him personally.  He wasn't himself, he wasn't focused, he was mean, he wouldn't complete any work, and he made noises constantly (which stemmed more from his Asperger's).  However, I know it exists, and it must work for some kids, right?

  5. i do not always think giving children with ADHD medicines is a good thing there are alternatives my friend son has ADHD and went down a none medicated alternative just a thought

  6. well my brother was on meds for ADHD and the doctor told my mother to cut it up and put it on a teaspoon of apple sauce or pudding  it took a it but we got it down him every time.   Also i would just ask the doctors im sure they have a lot of kids that don't swallow pills yet!  Good Luck!

  7. Yes there is a patch for children my little brother  growing up had the patch he is 14 right now and still can get it so you should def. talk to your doctor about it.

  8. My kids had to start taking allergy pills at 4 and 6. They used a straw to drink with it makes it much easier. They put it as far back on the tongue as they can and then drink fast from the straw. At first I held the cup for them so they just had to drink. But now they do it on  their own. We get their antibiotics this way as well. If they are too big we just cut  them with a pill cutter and they take it twice.

  9. idk but suggestion - smash up pill & mix into yogurt or pudding

  10. idk

  11. My friends son is on the patch and she said it works really well. Her son was having a hard time swallowing the pill. It starts with the letter "L".

  12. before I gave my son his first pill...I explained why has taking the medication, and understood because he was really having trouble in school....also I let him have a special drink to help him swallow it...it worked really good.....also my pharmacist told e I can't crush or cut it....plus it is soo tiny that it went by very good.....good luck....
