Question:

My 6 year old son wishes he was a girl.?

When he was a toddler he would try on my high heels, And carry my purse around. Which is normal, however now he has told me he wants to be a girl and even teared up when I told him he was a boy and could'nt change that. He is totally obsessed with female actresses and singers. He puts shirts on his head and acts like its long hair. Should I be worried? Or maybe get him into counseling? Or will he grow out of this? Please no derogatory answers. Thank you

  1. Well, it might be a phase. If it's not, I wouldn't worry. When he gets older, if the feeling still persists, then he might start keeping it to himself. So when he gets older, bring it up and ask him. Support whatever he wants; I really wish I had been born a guy; I have too many male hormones in my body, and I'm not really girly at all. Of course, my mom said she'd kill me if I ever swung the opposite way or get a gender change, so I'm stuck feeling like this. It would make him feel very uncomfortable, and 10 years from now, I wouldn't be letting him hide it. Sometimes it can cause very horrible mental stress. Whatever he feels comfortable with, support him.

  2. I have a little cousin just like that he always wanted to try on my dresses and make-up and high heels he always bought barbies and polly pockets. He would play s****. doo and always wanted to be daphinie so he could be a girl. We were worried. Now he has a "girlfriend", or so he thinks. and he plays with cars. have him play with boy toys and lay down the law dont let him try on your heels or clothes have him play with boys he'll get over it eventually

  3. If your son wants to be a girl, try calling the cosmetic surgeries to get him a s*x change.

  4. Well if he doesnt grow out of it then you will know.  Leave him be and let him grow up to be what the future has for him.

  5. That may just be the way he is. You might just have to accept it if he doesn't grow out of it.

  6. you should try some counseling and if that doesn't work out try other methods. But i think its just a fase

  7. maybe you should encourage him to do other things. Does he have a guy in his life? not trying to be mean or anything just curious. Maybe let him take acting class or something that he will feel proud about doing. Does he have a sister? Maybe he sees that girls get more attention or get treated differently and just wants attention. I would try to be more involved in his actvities and find something that he likes like basketball, soccer, reading, computers, board games, etc

  8. It is probably just a phase.  Alot of kids wish they are the opposite gender than what they are.  I remember wanting to be a boy, and I cut my hair down to where it was only about an 1 inch and a half long. Now you couldn't pay me to be male. He will most likely grow out of it.

  9. He will probably grow out of it.

Sounds like he needs a male role model.

    Father, grandfather, uncle, etc.

  10. what do yo do when he is into something he sholdn't be?

just let him continue on with it or do you say

hey honey no thats not a good idea?

you are the parent of the child you have say in what is right and what is wrong.

    you make the call....

  11. Just wait and see. Don't make a big deal about it.

  12. He will probably grow out of it. Try getting him around other little boys his age.

  13. I wouldn't make a big deal about it.. it could be a stage or he could have an identity problem.. Either way i wouldn't worry to much , i would also without pressure introduce your son to all the fun boy stuff has to offer..

  14. I would say at 6... he is still just a kid. Let him roleplay a little bit and explore a little bit. Just because he wants to pretend he was long hair and sings doesn't mean there is anything wrong.. now if he gets much older and continues this I would sit him down and talk

  15. to tell u the truth we were talking bout sexuality da outerday and i help with a pre k k and 1st grade class and durin centers all the lil boys say that cuz they hang around girls to much but he may grow out of it and he may not but hey it might be nice to have a little girl dont u think u no to do hair and all and i aint sayin that to make fun of or nothin but he might really wanna be a girl ask him wut he think he is and  i hate to say but like show him like 2 (accurate) dolls and ask him which he really thinks he should be (but put it in a way he can understand)

  16. Ignore it and take him to movies with male heroes and buy him gifts that are masculine and invite only boys to his birthday partys.

  17. Just leave him be. he might grow out of it, or he might not. support him no matter what. parental support is essential to a childs growth and maturation. you dont need to encourage it, but dont discourage it.

  18. Get used to having a g*y son.  Seriously.  Just learn to accept it.

  19. Love him for who he is. He may change when he grows older but maybe he will just be like that. You can't change him because he'll just end up hating you.

  20. face it he is g*y, i know its hard to accept for some people but just find it in your heart to accept him for he is its not your fault. if you can't accept that then i think it will make it more difficult for him to grow up and thinking that this is wrong. and hey there are many g*y people that are famous like Chris Cocker.

  21. He may be g*y and when he gets older and he decides to you need to accept him and love him

  22. lol reminds me of my nephew. He would cry when we would tell him he was a boy because he wanted to be a girl and he loved ButterCup from the Power Puff Girls and would always want to be her.He grew out of it so Im sure you have nothing to worry about.TakeCare.

  23. Just support him, remember he has no control over feeling like that and it would obviously be very upsetting for himself and knowing that he is not like "normal" kids.

My brother was like that when he was around that age and he has just "announced" that he is g*y.

Atleast your son trusts you enough to come and speak to you about this, so you need to be supportive of him and help him through the hard times that will come and let him know you will love him no matter what.

He may grow out of it - might be just a stage - but who knows.

  24. Hmmmmmm....may be that is his nature....I liked boy stuff when I was younger... I was obssed with girl models and stuff, I wanted to be a boy just to take care of a girl and love her...I liked girls since I was pretty young! I admire their beauty and stuff...well .... I was confused when I was a teen...later on I had to be honest with myself, and realized I was bisexual....

  25. I think this is something you really want to look into I would see a counselor and see what they have to say

  26. Please just love him and accept him.

    Just the way he is.

If he does happen to be g*y, you don't want him growing up unhappy, thinking  that who he is isn't good enough.

If he doesn't happen to be g*y, he will grow out of it.

****Edit...After reading your added comment, If I were you I would not take him to counseling.  There is no evidence that has ever helped anyone who is g*y to not be, merely makes them feel there is something wrong with them...  when there isn't.  And once again, if he isn't, he will grow out of it on his own.

  27. g*y is a choice not a thing you are born like so he isnt g*y because he probly doesnt even know what that is. his dad is like that so if you are worried let him spend more time with him. it will be ok.

  28. I dont know. Get him into counseling but if thats the way he wants to be I think you should let him.

  29. Its probley just a stage he see's all these girls doing diffrent activites that seem fun!He dosnt understand that he cant just change to being a girl.!

  30. in all honesty,

i think its a phase he's going thru. all boys go thru a phase i think alot of young boys go thru. if he doesn't out grow it in the next year. send him to counselling if thats what u think is right for your child.

if he does grow up to be g*y like alot of ppl would assume from this,

don't tell him he's a horrible child or person for it. love him and accept him.

78% of teens that come out to their parents, kill themselves.

    keep that in mind.
