  1. iS IT GREY ?

    What color is it ?

    could be just a bite

if it gets any worse,, call the vet !

or gets a scab on it?

it just might need help to pop ??

I would put a drawing sab on it

  2. Could be a lot of things but I would not waste much time having a vet look at it if it doesn't have a noticeable wound from an insect bite or sting. If it's a soft lump it could be a hematoma and vets will likely leave that to shrink and heal on it's own if it is the result of a bump against something or a minor injury. If the lump feels sort of firm and moves freely under the skin but like it's attached to something under the lump it may be a cyst or a tumor and the vet will want to remove and biopsy those. If it's a lump caused by the allergic reaction from an insect bite or sting it will shrink and if it's a hematoma caused by an injury it will shrink, but if it is a cyst or a tumor it will not shrink and it will grow larger. I suppose it could be a lot of things but I would not waste much time having a vet look at it if you don't know what it is and it grows larger or if does not begin to shrink very soon.

  3. Is it sore? if so id let it heal a little before riding again. But if its not sore, (you will know if its sore cause when you touch it the horse either wont be happy or it will twitch badle etc), id hose it down with cold water and massage it. My horse had one of these not there tho and it was just an excess build up of fluid,  just by hosing it off twice a day and massageing it after it was gone in a week!

  4. There are many possibilities as to what this could be, however, the first two that come to mind are hives or a hive as the case may be, or a hematoma...fancy name for a bruise.  Both are a relatively minor problem, but require attention to be paid.  Is the lump puffy or soft and squishy, a hive feels like a little pillow of air, a hematoma feels like a ball of liquid, hard at first then slowly becoming softer as it goes away.  Do not attempt to punture and drain it, you could introduce infection.  A hive is often an allergic reaction and one hive, localized in such a way would make me think a flybite or bee sting, try washing it with a bit of vinegar and water mixed 50-50.  That should help soothe a bite or sting, if it is a hematoma, a warm compress for a few minutes two to three times a day should help the swelling go down, if you horse does not show any pain then I would say go ahead and ride him/her, as long as it doesn't cause discomfort an easy ride might help break down a hematoma.  If the lump does not go away or your horse starts to show signs of distress, elavated heart rate and/or breathing or shows an increasing amount of pain toward having the lump palpated then I would consult a vet over the phone and ask their opinion.
