My son is 6 and his gums are swollen and bleeding a bit in the back behind his molars. It's Sunday and I can't get a hold of his dentist! Is it just that his new molars are coming out? Or should i be concerned and take him in? Thanks for your help!!!!!!

  1. h**l Mom...Look if the bleeding seems to be excessive considering the eruption of new teeth, take your son to the ER or call your DDS for an emergency appointment...If the bleeding is slight and only when he eats, you can have him rinse with salt water and you can go to your pharmacy and purchase a product called "Ora-Jel"...it's not designed to stop bleeding but it will provide an anesthetic reaction and reduce if not completely block any pain that is happening....If your son hasn't had a dental appointment in the last year, he needs one NOW...Good luck and I wish you both well.

  2. If he is not in pain I would rinse with salt water,  if he is in pain I would give motrin for his age and in two hours give tylenol for his age and alternate til tomorrow as long as he can stand the pain.  Biting down helps.

  3. my bhusband little brother ( my brother n law )  is 7 years old , and last year at the age of six the same thing happened to him and he had an infection in his gum . and they had to pull his tooth .  it could be something like that . so till you can get him to the dentest just try to control any pain he might be having and make sure he eats gentle foods on the other side of his mouth if he can .   but get him to the dentest as soon as you can  .  because only they know whats really going on
