I took the starter off and looked at it. The starter motor turns thats why I am questioning. When I push the start button it don't click or anything. The neutral light comes on but that is it. Before it quit starting the starter was making a funny noise though.

  1. ok, so you push the starter button but nothing happens, you think its the starter. almost every starter is 12vdc today, there will be 1 wire going to a stud on the starter. hook a jumper cable (not a thin wire) to your positive (Red) post on battery, then touch quickly, the other end of that same cable to this post on the starter. Make sure the bike is in neutral as the starter should turn.

If the starter turns, the starter is good. If it doesnt, then the starter is bad.   its that easy !

  2. The solenoid has 2 10mm nuts on it. If you short them out with a screwdriver the starter should turn. if it does then the starter is ok. If it does turn over, check the small wire that goes to the solenoid. With the button pressed, you should have 12 volts on the wire. if the 12 volts is missing then work your way back to the starter button to find the problem. If the starter rattles. look for a loose battery terminal. if none of those work, then your starter needs to be looked at.
