Question:

My 7 month old has a cold?

Since yesterday I noticed that it sounds like she has phlegm on throat, but she seems normal, she doesn't have fever or anything, but the thing is that me and my mom have sore throat and runny nose, so obviously she also has something. Should I just wait or take her to the doctor? I've been using the saline drops and suctioning, but she was coughing while she was sleeping, and she starting to sneeze.

What can I do?

  1. I would call your doctor and just see if there is anything over the counter you can give her. If she doesn't have a fever I wouldn't be super concerned at this point. However, if her cough worsens or gets really bad I would take her in.

Try to treat her symptoms at this point and cally our doctor to see what they say.

    Good luck!!

If she is teething that could what is causing the mucus build up in her throat. If she is acting ok and otherwise doesn't seem sick I wouldn't worry. Still keep an eye on her cough though.

  2. okay when my son had a cold a bad cold (a little older than your baby) i did take him to the doctor because his coughing sounded so bad.  the doc said he sounded congested because he doesn't know how to swallow the mucus that is running down his throat and how to sniff (you know when you sniff real hard to get the snot back up your nose lol) anyway she told me to give him a vapor bath right before bed and only before bed and to prop his crib mattress up a little so when he was sleeping the mucus would run down in his throat than to just sit in his head.  anyway she also said that there is really nothing you can do during the day, like cough medicine, she said it is healthy for the baby to cough.  hope this helped at all!

  3. My daughter has had lots of colds.  The suctioning helps but also having a humidifer going in her room also helps.  When she coughs during the night I turn the shower on in the bathroom and take her in and let her breath in the steam.  This always helps.  Also putting something like towels or blankets under her crib to elevate it also helps with the coughing.  You can also relieve symptoms by giving her tylenol.  If she doesn't have a fever I wouldn't take her to the doctor but if it makes you feel better then by all means take her.  If your gut says there is something more wrong you should listen to it.  I know with mine sometimes the cold leads to an ear infection so if she seems fussy and can't sleep I would take her then.  Or if she has a cough for more than a week I would get them to check her lungs too.

  4. Call your Ped if you're concerned.  But it is typical for children to have cold symptoms when teething.

It's better to be safe and just ask the Ped.

  5. all common, if your nursing give her your milk, if not just keep her hydrated...theres nothing anyone can do but let it pass cuz they're so little.
