What worked for you besides Baby Ora-gel? I don't know what else I can do to ease the pain. I've taken walks outside, cold teethers and I even let him sleep with me for comfort. Any other suggestions from the experienced parents? This is my first.

  1. two thoughts -- one:  i've rubbed pure vanilla extract on my baby's gums to help ease the pain. it's works well, although it does have some alcohol in it so if that makes you uncomfortable then skip it.  (my pediatrician told us it was fine, you may want to ask your own).

two: is your baby sick? sometimes when babies get stomach bugs around teething time parents think they're sick FROM teething. i don't think teething actually causes diarrhea -- germs/bacteria do. if he's having a lot of diarrhea and not holding down formula then give him pedialyte to keep him hydrated. if you're nursing then keep nursing as you normally would.  i would hold off on any solids if he continues to have diarrhea -- this advice is if he's actually sick, not if he's just teething.

above all, i would ask your doctor to see what might be causing his diarrhea & loss of appetite. the right diagnosis will help you deal with the problem better.  good luck!!

  2. I literally just got over that hump like last week... your doing basically all you can do. there is one thing that you didn't list which is the Humphrey's teething tablets, they are supposed to help calm them down the "natural way" but i don't really recommend them because they don't seem to do the job at all, but you never know every baby is different.

I simply gave my son all more of my patience and love and when it really got worse i used infant Tylenol. other than that soft chewy toys or gel teething rings just things for his gums to help relieve the pressure. I actually didn't starting using baby orajel till the very end only b/c i didn't really know about that. but from my experience that is the best thing that works.

  3. The frozen fruit is an idea that worked well for us, especially when Katie was teething molars.  I just gave it to her in small frozen chunks.

Also, a frozen toothbrush is good...they can grab onto it, and get it to wherever the pain is - that was one of our problems with later teeth...none of the teethers got back far enough.

Diluted clove oil rubbed on baby's gums may also help.  Very dilute.  Like, 3-4 drops in a tablespoon of veggie/olive oil.

  4. use medicine

  5. wet cold wash cloth.Let him chew on it all he wants.Baby Tylenol is good for his mouth pain. They have like baby biscuits, the texture is hard and that might help him.

  6. Tylenol

  7. i know its not good to dose small children on medicines but try calpol at night time to ease some of the pain and may be also bonjella..

you can get teething rings that go in the freezer that could help.. and yuky bums are common with children going through teething.. i know all my children would give me a yuky nappy when they would teeth..

its really hard to see them in pain and not know what to do. talk to your health visitor for advice..

  8. hyland teething tabs, they taste like nothing and dissolve instantly. The cool thing about the tabs is that you can safely give them another dose 20 minutes after giving the first dose if the pain hasnt subsided and theres no mess like tylenol.

  9. You could try freezing pieces of soft fruit, like peaches, and wrapping them in a muslin cloth then letting him suck and bite on them. My son used to like that and found it helped soothe the teething pain. Also a dose of Calpol at bedtime helps.

  10. infant motrin is awesome! you'll never go back to tylenol once you give your baby motrin. teething tablets work good too. those frozen teethers are so huge and hard for baby's to grasp. if your baby takes a paci- freeze it. they also have vibrating teethers made by bright starts available at walmart. something about the vibrating really helps push those teeth through the gums.

  11. alright, i'm not a mom but i'm still young. my mother is a foster mom for babies that age and i take care of them all of the time.

first: of course he has that stuff, he is teething.

there isn't much you can do, it's not you can stop the teeth. But just keep on with the ora-gel, and just hold him. Now, you need to make sure you are changing his diaper a lot because of the diareah and you don't want him to get a rash. So just make sure you put a lot of the ora gel on and keep it there. Hope I'm helping! =]]

Also, let him bite on his teething toys and a really cold wash cloth. Maybe a little bit of Tylenol too. =]]

  12. infant tylonal, mine is 8 months and it worked very well, and its safe, there is also teeting tablets, those work better then ora-gel. and its normal for them to not want to eat as much. i bet the two bottom or two top are going to come in first. just be patiant.

  13. http://www.hylands.com/products/teething...

Hyland brand Teething Tablets.  They're a natural product and dissolve almost instantly.  They worked for my baby and were recommended to me by a friend.

  14. A couple of things worked for us:

    1.  Hyland's Teething Tablets.  Natural and inexpensive.  Made a huge difference in her disposition during teething.

    2.  I would take a fresh piece of fruit (apple, peach, etc.), cut it up into small pieces and then freeze the pieces in a ziplock bag.  Then I would take one out and put it in the feeding net (they sell them at Walmart) and she would chew/gum on the net.  The cold would numb her gums and she was getting juice from a fresh piece of fruit.

    3.  On the nights/days when she was really bad, I would give her the appropriate amount of Infant Tylenol.

    Good luck!

  15. there are these pills called humphreys that my mom swore by with 7 kids and they worked every time, I also used them as a mom of two. google it or go to your local pharmacy.
