Question:

My 7 year old daughter is touching herself...?

Recently I have seen my 7 year old daughter rubbing her privates whether she is at home or out in public. Ive heard that young girls dont know what they are doing just that it feels good. Is this normal and can anyone give me advice about how to handle this. My wife passed away so I am a single parent and am wondering how I should go about handling this. Any advice will be appreciated!

It's very normal, however most of the above suggestions are good. It would be a good idea t have her checked by a doctor to make sure it's not an infection, and to have a talk with her about 1. not only doing it in private, but also about it not being ok for anyone else to touch her in that area.

Also, if you are not comfortable asking her if she's been molested, you might try to find an adult female that she trusts, such as an aunt or older cousin or even a school counselor that can approach her about it.

  2. Its normal behavior... as long as you know she hasn't been touch inappropriately.

When you see her doing it publicly... I would simply say.... "____ that is something you only do in private".

  3. First off, ask her if she is uncomfortable down there. Maybe her underwear is too tight and chafing her, or she is itching from a yeast infection or something. If she says she has no problem, then just remind her that touching her privates is something to be done in the privacy of her room, and not in front of other people. If she's complaining of itching or discomfort in that area, take her to the doctors.

  4. Ask her if she hurts or burns or itches there.  If so, a trip to the doctor will get the answers you need.  If it's strictly for pleasure then tell her that it is her body and okay to touch it but it needs to be done in private.  Along with the speech about how ONLY she is allowed to touch her body and to tell you if anyone else does.  On another note, I'm sorry about your wife.  : (

  5. Ithink its something you should definately talk to the doctor about. Theres nothing but girls in my family and ive never seen that. She can have a yeast infection. If shes doing  it in poblic i dont believe she doing it in a fresh way she probably cant help the itch. Call the doctor immediately

  6. Tell her that it is not appropriate and that she shouldn't do it again and explain that it doesn't look right to other people who will judge her.  If she does it againg give her a spanking.

  7. This is normal.  Tell her that this is a private thing done in private and she should not let anyone touch her there.  The teachers at school or your local librarian or local doctor will have  stuff on PHSE

  8. well if she is rubbing it maybe she has an infection or something?

Ask her about it and maybe give her part of the talkk and if she says it itches you can ask to see it or ask her if its red and take her to the docs she might even be uncomfortabl and scared to talk to you about it and tell u "i dont know" in order to skip going to the doctor or something.

  9. It is perfectly normal. Ask her to explain her feelings... might just be an itch.. but most likely maturbation. Explain to her that it is normal, but it has to be done in private and NOT in public. Good luck daddy!

  10. I would just tell her that it's impolite to do that in public and that it's something she should only do alone in her room. It's pretty natural. Little boys do it ALL THE TIME. Girls aren't so different really. I would ask her if it iches though, just in case it is a yeast infection. If it were she would probably be complaining up a storm though. You can give her the inappropriate touching talk now too if you haven't already and ask her about it if it worries you. It could also be that it's hot out and it's getting sweaty. It's probably normal kid stuff.

  11. It is normal, just tell her it is a private thing that we do not do in public.

Make sure you take her to the doctors to insure that there is not infection.

Also, no baths for little ones.  Both boys and girls alike can get issues in their private parts from baths.

  12. Make sure she takes plenty of long baths to soak the toodle-oo.  Bubble baths and harsh soaps can irritate her skin down there as well as fabric softeners and bleached clothing.  What kind of soap is she using on herself,  use a gentle baby soap and see if it helps.  I bet she is just itchy.  You obviously can't help her wash herself properly there without feeling uncomfortable so talk to her about cleaning and rinsing  properly.

  13. This could be a yeast infection from taking baths or other reasons or a sign that she has been molested- take her to her pediatrician but talk to the Dr. about it with her out of the room first.

If you take her to a female pediatrician you can leave her when the exam starts and that will be easier on both of you- good luck!

I am the mother of 5 and have taken in numerous other children- Children at this age are not likely to m********e-it's most likely a yeast infection. Talk to the Dr about diet-girls need lots of yogurt to ensure good hygene and health. Either way-you need to tell her to stop touching herself in public as it's not acceptable.
