  1. No, they're not.  If your daughter refuses to go as someone/something else, promise her that she can be Hannah Montana or a Bratz girl for Halloween if she goes as something else for school.

  2. Nah they're not book characters.   My 9 yr old was the same at her book day, she ended up going as pippy longstocking! LOL

Does she like Harry Potter?  She could go as Hermione?

Maybe go through some of the books she likes and you can pick out a different character together.

    Good luck :)

  3. NO. They aren't and it is definitely NOT what the teacher wants. She wants to have them use books that a 6 or 7 year old would read and that are geared to that age range.

    Some book character ideas:

    Amelia Bedelia

    Eloise

Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz

    Alice in Wonderland

    Harriet the Spy

    The Cat in the Hat

Thing One/Thing Two (she could do it with a friend)

    Madeline

    Junie B. Jones

    American girl

  4. I wouldn't necessarily call these characters from books. I'm sure there are Bratz books and Hannah Montana books, but I think her assignment is probably thinking more along the lines of the classics.

  5. They may make books about them, but that's NOT what the teacher means, trust me.

Encourage her to do something else, Madeline would be a good one! Get a red wig(unless she has read hair)and look at the books for costume ideas.

  6. I wouldn't say they are. When I think of book characters I think of winnie the pooh, clifford, Dr Seuss, even Disney characters. It is hard to convince a 7 yr old of that though!

  7. those are not book characters

  8. Not really, she could go as

    Alice (from Alice in Wonderland)

Dorothy (from the Wizard of Oz)

The Queen of Hearts (also from Alice)

    Hermione (from Harry Potter)

    Nancy Drew

    one of the Berenstain Bears

    Anne of Green Gables

Queen Guenevere (from King Arthur stories)

    The Cat in the Hat

    Pippi Longstocking

    Little Bear

someone from the Bible stories - Moses' sister, Rebecca at the well

    Paddington Bear

Take a look through her book shelves and see what you can find - with just a silky curtain she could be a Princess from the Arabian Nights stories, or go to the Public Library and take a look at the children's books - you will find something there.

    Good Luck!

  9. I would suggest you dont allow your 7yr old to dress up like either of those trampy icons. Cant she be a disney princess or something cute not trashy. Come on, a brat doll looks like some of the street walkers on sunset blvd.

  10. No.  I would say The Cat In the Hat or Laura Ingalls Wilder or something. Does she have a favorite book? Have her to look  through some of her books to find some ideas.

  11. No they are not book characters~ they are money making commercials in the form of children's entertainment. Why not take her to the library, let her look through the childrens section, and see what takes her fancy. It will get her away from the t.v. and you may find that she has a real liking for reading. You could try showing her pictures of Alice from "alice in Wonderland' or anything along those lines, or Maybe Cinderella for a more fancy costume.

  12. I agree. I'm certain there are Bratz books and Hannah Montana books and probably not at what the teacher is aiming. Yet, think about books aimed at 7 year olds...Dr. Seuss, Berenstain Bears. There is also Junie B. Jones and Judy Moody.

Maybe you should ask the teacher for what she is looking. Then again, I come from the school that anything that gets a child reading is good.

  13. My daughter wanted to do the same thing.  If you can find a book with the character in it, let her go as that character, but make her take the book to school with her.  I do know hannah montana has some books out, so buy one for two bucks and let her at it!  (You can buy her books at walmart!)

  14. LOL, there's always a kid who tries to bend the rules when it's dress-like-a-book-character day.  Technically she's right if she's read a book about the characters, but I wouldn't let her if I were you.  The idea is to get kids to dress up like book characters to promote reading as being fun.  HM is a TV show, and Bratz are dolls.  Neither were inspired by books- the books were inspired by the merchandise.  Help her find a book character that would still look really cute and stylish (if that's what she's going for).

  15. No, this is probably not what they have in mind.  Try some more traditional fairy tale characters, and save Hannah Montana and Bratz for Halloween.  She could still do the princess thing (Snow White or Cinderella) or Little Red Riding Hood.  If she's blonde, Goldilocks would be cute.
