Is there a book or a dvd geared towards kids that my son and I can read or watch together. I went outside with him today and we practiced throwing and catching, but I am afraid that is the extend of my knowledge. My husband (who is deployed to Iraq, and will miss the whole season) suggested finding a book or dvd that could teach us both but I don't know where to begin. Is there a basic book or dvd that will teach my son and I the different positions and what they are for? So my son does not walk on the football field for the first time 1 without his dad and 2 without a understanding of the game. 15 month Deployments Stink! Thanks for your help!

  1. Perhaps one of your son's friend's Dad could take him under his wing for the purpose of giving him some male support while his Dad is over-seas.    Maybe you could arrange a dinner with his friend's parents and discuss football with them.  A lot of Moms understand the game well enough to help you.  By the way, thank you for your sacrifice; the families of our service men all give to the country and as much as we appreciate your husband, we appreciate you and your children just as much.  Thank you!

  2. are talking about football or soccer?

What I would do is talk to the coach, and explain to him about your husband's situation and how your kid might need a little help and encouragement. I'm sure he will understand.

    These might help too

  3. this is posted in the soccer section bu I am thinking you are asking about american football

get to the library - there are a boatload of books there - and preseason NFL is just starting

And thanks for the sacrifice = we really do appreciate it

  4. Firstly your a great mom for even trying to give him a heads start.  I think that your son will not be the only beiginner on the team.  Just let him learn from the coach ... go and support him at his games.  He'll "learn by doing".
