My 8 month old has a fever and rash...?

My 8 month old son has had a bit of a fever and rash all on his chest area and a bit down his legs. We haven't switched any detergent or anything lately. He's teething and I know that can cause a fever. His fever is about 101, and typically goes down when we give him tylenol. Anyone else been through this with their baby? What did you do?

He's still eating and playing and hasn't been too fussy. So, we've been lucky. I'm waiting on the doctor to call me about if we should take him to the ER. Personally I don't think it's anything to warrant immediate concern, but I'm not sure.

Any advice?

  1. Teething fevers usually aren't that high.  I would worry about something like Roseola or Shingles or something liek that.

  2. I do not think it is any reason for concern, especially if he isn't really fussy or refusing to eat. My kids always had nasty fevers while teething, and the rash could be due to heat rash or the fever.

  3. What does the rash look like - color, texture, where is it located, small dots, large dots, color inside dots, when did the rash start compared to his fever?

  4. sounds to me like a allergic reaction.

  5. Mu daughter is also 8 months. And just last week same exact thing happen. First it was a temperature about 101. I gave her tylenol. Fever did really go down but she was still active. Then the next day I notice a rash all over her tummy and face. I did not take her to the doctor. But the rash did go away the next day. SHe still has a little fever but instead of tylenol I give her motrin. That seem to work alot better.

  6. If he's still eating and playing as usual I would probably wait and just bring him to the pediatric clinic or doctor' s office the next day. Continue to give Tylenol every 4-6 hrs to keep his fever down. Could you better describe this rash he has?
