I have an 8 month old puupy and recently she has started eating stones. She was sick a couple of weeks back and it had a large stone in it (not huge but big enough for you to wonder how the h**l she swallowed it). Since then she has been doing this more regularly. She keeps heaving and throwing them back up and i'm starting to worry about whether this is causing her internal damage. Like I say, these are not small stones! Any ideas?

Extra info - she is not a well pup anyway, we found out her kidneys haven't developed properly and that she only has about 2 years to live. Don't know whether this has anything to do with it?

  1. So don't allow her to eat them! They can cause bowel obstruction, which can cause an extremely painful death. If your child ate rocks, wouldn't you do something to prevent it??

Take her out on lead, and teach her 'leave it'. If she goes for a rock, say 'leave it', pull her toward you, praise, and give her food. She will learn that 'leave it' means food is coming, and that you have something better than rocks.
