I was like starting thinking about to get her spayed, and people told me it's better for her because live longer and no cancer after spayed, and I just read a newspaper that 4 millions dogs at home shelter are died by every years because no one want a dogs, and can't afford it..stuff like that..spayed cost 100$ and ect shot for 20$...but I am worried about my dog, i love her so much! she had her period at July 18th, and she finished her period at Aug 7th 2008 this month, and she going get spayed on this Thursday, I am really really really worried!!! I don't want her to get pain but I will definely get her pain medicane because I don't want her to get pain, I am so stressful, how can I hangle myself? thank you so much! 10points!

  1. It is a better choice to get your dog spayed, as you will almost eliminate the risk of her getting mammary cancer.

    Your dog will be in a little discomfort but the vet will provide you with pain medications for her. It is not as bad as you think.

    I've sat through many spays and it is really quick and painless for the dog.

    A lot of vets are not in the business" for money, we do this because we love animals and their owners, and we want to help them any way we can. Not just medically but we want to strengthen the bond between an animal and it's owner.

    You don't need to be worried about her being spayed, it is the best thing you can do for her.

  2. It is natural to worry about your dog having surgery, but honestly, don't worry.  Spay and neuter surgeries are the most-often surgeries performed by vets, they have a great deal of experience, and they are very safe surgeries.    I just found the figure for another question, and death during spay happens in 0.1% of dogs--that is one-tenth of one percent!-extremely low.    Your vet will give you pain medication for her, make sure you ask about it prior to the spay.

    As far as spaying & safety:   The incidience for developing mammary tumors rise with each heat (not period) that an intact female goes through.  Having gone through one heat cycle, the risk is still very low for your dog( 0.5%- half of one percent).  If you had let her go through 3 heat cycles, her risk would jump to 26% !

    Be assured you are doing the right thing for your dog, to give her a long, healthy and happy life!

  3. I understand what your saying but ypu need to remember to do whats best for her..yes she may be in some pain afterward but the medacine will help and the pain will go away.If your  not wanting to breed her{some people want there dpgs to have just one litter before there spayed} and just want  a companion then  getting her spayed is a great thing to do. not that breeding is a bad thing if your respnsible but there is a lot of work that goes into that.Dont get so stressed out ...think about whats best for her ...and decide what to go from there..Everything will be fine .good kluck and hope everything works out...ksluv42poms@new.rr.com krisitn kspomeraniasn{owner/manager}

  4. Spaying her is the best for her long term health- good call.

    Young dogs tend to bounce back post op a lot faster then older females- in fact sometimes the problem is keeping them quite while they heal.

    Make sure that you trust the vet- and make sure that a new grad- is not doing the sx.  It will go saster with experience and she will be under for less time.

  5. I work as a veterinary technician, and I have seen hundreds and hundreds of spays take place.  My job is to prepare the surgery suite, and I am the anesthesiologist for surgery as well, responsible for monitoring the patient to make sure he/she comes out okay.

    You are doing the right thing.  Female dogs should always be spayed, it is so much healthier for them.  She will take a few days to recover from the anesthesia, and she will have stitches in her abdomen but it is a very routine surgery and your dog will be okay.  Your veterinarian will prescribe pain medication when she goes home, so she will not be in pain.  Just make sure you keep her very calm for at least 2 weeks after the surgery.  Do not let her jump onto furniture, run, or do any heavy exercise.  Also try to avoid her going up and down stairs.  Watch her during that time to make sure she does not l**k her stitches, and if she does make sure you buy her an E-Collar (aka "Cone") to put on her head.

    Don't worry, you're doing the right thing and she will be fine!
