  1. It will be fine, and good for the pup to socialize with adult dogs from an early age. The main thing is he isn't taken outside to parks etc until he has his jabs. Lots of people who get a new puppy already have one or more adult dogs, and they live together 24/7 so a visiting adult dog is no problem.

  2. It will probably be fine.  As long as you aren't taking him places where lots of unknown dogs have been, especially around other dogs' waste.... you should be OK.  To be on the safe side make sure the other dogs haven't been around others too recently, and keep them all inside to play.

  3. Make sure your niece removes her shoe's and washes her hands with a dissenfectant hand wash before she touches the pups. That should apply to all who visit the house including you if you go out.

The pups are at there most vunerable to infection now as mothers protection has worn off and not had jabs so extra care is needed.

  4. Yes, it's OK, as long as the dogs are up to date with vaccinations they will pose no threat to your puppy.

You just need to keep him away from dogs you don't know in case they haven't, and also anywhere other dogs may have been as diseases can be picked up off the ground.

You should wait until 2 weeks after his final vaccination before taking him out where other dogs are, or have been, but your vet will advise you about this.

  5. Yes but she mus not bring the dogs. Even though they are vaccinated you don't know what diseases could be hanging around on thier coats and such like.

  6. This is a problem - probably be okay, but visiting dogs, even if vaccinated, can still bring infection onto your premises (Kennel Cough, enteritis bugs).  Personally I think I'd ask her to hold off coming with her dogs, until your puppy has at least had one set of jabs.  It's only a few weeks after all.

And yes, puppies do come into dog households, but in that instance, the owners can be careful where they exercise their existing dogs, until pup is protected?

Just my opinion.  I'd not risk it!!

  7. Socialization is very important for your puppy and during the next few weeks it is important that he does this. He needs to get out and about with you, meeting and greeting different people and animals and going to different places. The only things he can't do is socialize with unvacccinated dogs or go on ground which unvaccinated dogs may have been on. So carry him in these areas but on your own land and in peoples where you know unvaccinated dogs have not been he can go down and meet and play (again only with dogs known to have been vaccinated).

There is what is known as a critical period of socialization for dogs which ends at about 14 to 16 wks of age and it has been found that dogs who are well socialized during this period generally turn out to be very well balanced, well adjusted and less fearful adults. So make it your plan to get him out and about during this period, meeting, greeting and seeing and learning about the big wide world.

You can still do all of this before his vaccination program has ended, just carry him if you are unsure whether unvaccinated dogs have been around.
