  1. Maybe you should get some help with your reading and writing so you can work with her too.

It looks like English is your second language. If you read and write well in another language, it's ok to read with her in your own language.

    - To Karen,

That's called tracking, and it's politically incorrect- despite the fact that it's more efficient.

  2. Maybe she's having problems because she hasn't learned the sounds that the letters make.     Go to a website abcya.com.    There are different tabs for different grade levels.     It'll be fun and she will enjoy it.

Get some of the basic words (from her spelling lists) and write them on the index cards so that you have made your own spelling "flash cards".    Include words that she already knows, like "the"  "and"  "it"  "house", etc.       If you only include words she doesn't know, she'll get discouraged.     Work with her on a daily basis.

Buy some books with audio tapes so that your daughter can read along with the books.

Has her hearing been tested?   Maybe she has a hearing impariment that makes it hard.       Your daughter may be dyslexic and sees the letters in the wrong order to read the words.

Encourage your daughter and don't give up.       Good Luck!

  3. Obviously the reading and writing troubles are coming from you. Please retype your question in normal English (say, in sentences? And not all caps?) and maybe I'll read it.

  4. Just keep encouraging her to read. It seems that the state or school system thinks that all children should be at the same place in learning at the same time which is so far from the truth. Everyone learns at their own pace, while one is really good at math like my daughter (9), that same one is not good at reading, like my daughter.

The schools are also under much pressure to show that kids are learning better in order to get the funding they need. They are pushing kids harder than ever and it sucks. Really would like to know what happened to dividing kids into groups according to how they learn and teaching them at their pace.

  5. i know how she feels, i have like 3 people help me with geometry, and i'm failing. maybe she's dyslexic. being dyslexic doesn't mean you see eveything backwards, it could just be poor reading comprehension.

  6. We had good results from the Kumon program for math and reading.
