my stepson does not know how to interact with other kids his age, these kids notice immediately and pick on him, he also has trouble focusing and is always moving around. some research ive done i come up with 2 different possible answers for this, 1 is adhd and 2 a form of autism called asperger's disease. does anyone have additional info to help us?

  1. Why not just take him the the doctor and get a professional opinion.

You are not helping him by asking this here.

  2. first of all its Asperger's SYNDROME    not disease

if you suspect he has asperger's syndrome i recomend joining this website

it is a forum for those with asperger's syndrome and for family of those with it.

discuss your stepson there and they can help you with coping strategies for both you and your stepson.

  3. The only way to find out for certain is to have him tested.

  4. ADHD and autism are the two things that come to my mind when I read this too. But nobody here is going to be able to diagnose your son (which I am sure you know.) Even if there was a doctor on here - they can't say much without seeing him in person. It sounds like he has some kind of anxiety around the other kids, which can be a part of one of the things you mentioned or a problem on his own.

Have you tried setting up structured play dates with other kids? Like find a game he likes to play and see if any other kids want to come join y'all for an evening? You might start with a cousin or neighborhood kid who is a little younger like 6. Stay involved and play with them. Be a cool parent :)

You really should speak with a doctor about this. They can help you decide the best way to handle your son which may or may not include medication or just a set of activities to help increase his social skills.
