My ipod screen is completely blank and will not turn on despite the fact that i have tried to reset it multiple times. The ipod does not appear in itunes which returns a message stating that "an ipod has been detected but could not be properly recognized (error 1601)". I have found the ipod in my device manager, where it lists the device as Apple Recovery (DFU) USB Driver. Please can someone tell me how to fix this problem as the apple support site is of little help and I'm at my wits end....ten lovely points available!

  1. Okay, I know that this answer is probably going to be completely useless, because I'm guessing that you want immediate results.

But all I can suggest is that you go to your nearest Apple Store. You have to make an appointment on Apple's website, because they don't allow you to make appointments over the phone (unless your computer is not working).

When you go to the store (get there a few minutes early), check in with one of the concierges (they'll probably be in orange t-shirts). You'll get a beeper. When it vibrates, go to the Genius Bar and tell them your iPod problem.

It may cost a good amount of money to get fixed. If your iPod is under warranty, you'll probably be able to get it fixed for free. Brace yourself, because you just might have to get an entirely new iPod.

I've done as much as I can. I hope I've helped you out.

    Good luck with your iPod.

PS- your iPod might just be REALLY low on battery power. Keep it plugged into your computer for about an hour. If nothing happens by then, definitely take it to the store.

  2. You said that you tried to reset it....I presume you meant that you held the middle button and the top button down simultaneously until the apple appeared on the screen? That's the only way I know to reset it.

Once mine got hung up and finally the battery ran down; when I charged it up, it reset itself.

This was before I learned to hold those two buttons at the same time.
