I tried jumper cables, and the engine started and idled briefly although I had to give it gas or it would stall. I took the battery out to be tested, and after a full charge it tested good, however the engine still will not start, and seem hesitant to turn over. It acts as if it not receiving enough power. What else may the problem be? Could it be the starter?

  1. The most probable cause is probably the battery connections, and you can use sandpaper to sand down corrosion. if this is not the problem then you lokk at the starter. you can take it out and bench test it(put it in a vise and see how fast and powerful) or bring it to autozone or napa and have them test it for you. if the startewr vis bad, don't buy a new one, you can rebuld it, look at some books for that.

  2. bad connections from the battery to the starter

  3. When you say the battery tested good, did you load test it? That will show if it has enough amperage in it ( and not just 12 volts) to crank your engine. If it was load tested and shows good, check and clean all electrical connections and try again. Save the starter for last (most expensive) !

  4. like they have stated make sure you are load testing and not just putting a meter on it, also check your connections -all of them, battery, starting solenoid, the starter from the coil and the grounds, if they are all okay then start testing the components, the starter, solenoid..etc, if you have to replace start with the cheapest first...good luck
