  1. If the doctor isn't concerned about the lack of weight gain, don't push it. My baby was a breast feeder and just wouldn't give it up! Sounds like he's just not ready. When my baby was ready, she literally lunged for a banana. Read What to Expect The Toddler Years- I think 8 months is still a little early for solids, so be patient.

  2. It is not that important that he be getting much solids at this age. The important calories and nutrients should continue to come from breast milk until around 12 months. I would STOP forcing it. The only thing that you are going to accomplish by pushing him is a baby who associates meals with bad feelings. You can certainly happily encourage him to eat, but ultimately he has a right to eat as much as he wants.

My advice would be to let him do it himself. Steam up some vegetables, get some soft fruits like pear and banana, mash up some beans, chop up some meat, then put it on his tray. Let him feed himself as much as he wants. If he simply explores it and makes a mess, that is absolutely fine. That is what solids are for right now. You can relax, he can have fun, and eventually he will get the hang of it. No drama.

If he is not gaining sufficient weight (breastfed babies should be gaining around 2-3 ounces per week at this age), then discuss it with the doctor. Solids are NOT the answer to a baby who truly has a weight gain issue. Breast milk is his main food right now.

  3. try giving him finger foods and letting him feed himself a little bit.. I wouldn't worry about his weight all babies go through a weight change.

  4. All you can do is keep tying. Of course, don't PUSH him to eat any solids, but let him watch you do it. Act like you're really enjoying it and keep on trying, he'll get it and as long as he is gaining weight and is healthy there really aren't many concerns.

  5. Keep working with him. Its not a huge deal right now though, babies get most of the nutrition they need from bm/formula.

  6. Are you willing to try bottle feeding an breast feeding at the same time with formula? Maybe that will free you up and offer him another fatty source to gain some weight.

  7. Maybe he is teething? and his mouth is sore. Thats what happend too my son when he was teething. Didnt eat for a month. The food was always there and made and I kept trying, and then one day he just ate his cereal, and hasnt stopped ever since. If its a big worry, take him too the Dr, thats what they are there for.

  8. Dont worry her time willcome. But in the meantime try introducing soft fruits first...
