since last July, a year ago. When I pointed this out to the doctor he didn't seem overly concerned, especially after he checked my son's height. He's 22 percentile on weight and 37 percentile on height. I guess that's a comparison to other kids his own age and their weight and height...

My son is very skinny, but not emaciated or malnourished....but still, only 2 lbs in a year???????

  1. his weight and height are not that far from each other on the chart. Don't stress too much. The doctor is not cocerned and if you son is active then this will keep his weight at a healthy level. I also took my son to the doctor as he appeared too thin and I was worried but my doctor said as long as he is growing then he is fine. If something was wrong he would not grow. he is 9 and is 143cm tall so up on the 88th in height but is at about 36th for weight on the centile charts

  2. hes just not going through pueberty yet if u want him to gain wheight feed him a lot of meat

  3. My son did not gain any weight for 2 years.  Then over the past 2 years he gained 17lbs, but is still thin.  He is nearly 11 and weighs bout 67lbs. His doctor was not concerned at all because he was healthy and grew in height.  Boys tend to add weight and then grow taller, so sometimes they look skinny for a while right after a growth spurt.  I am thinking mine is about to grow a bit soon.

  4. As long as he is active and not ill, your doctor is right, it's nothing to worry about.  My (almost) 9 yo son only gained 3.5 pounds in the last 13 months, but he is active in football, swimming and other sports.. he rarely sits around.  My eldest son (almost 11yo) also doesn't gain much weight, but also active in sports.

  5. I am a Certified Medical Assistant

Young kids especially boys metabolism is extremely fast also if your son is active than that is another reason.. At this point and time I would agree with your doctor on this one..

He is fine.. If your son starts getting ill more often or starts vomiting than and only than would there be a cause for concern
