Question:

My 90 HP Mercury outboard is stuck in reverse.?

I backed it off the beach with no problems and tried to shift into nuetral with no result. Any Ideas

  1. usually when an outboard is stuck in one gear it means you have a broken shift cable. You need to pull the engine cover and watch the shift linkage while someone else moves the shifter for you. If everything seems to be connected you will need to have the cable replaced. If you find something disconnected, put it together and try it agaion. Take it to a certified Merc dealer if you can't get it fixed yourself. Those cables can be tricky to replace.


  2. Check if shifter cable is come loose or broken. Check shifter linkage at motor for proper operation. WShift lever may have come loose.
