i replaced the crank sensor, fuel pump, alternaror , battery, and bypassed the fuel pump relay with a toggle switch in the cab. but it still gives me problems when i drive it only short distance and turn it off. she never wants to restart without a min. 2 hr rest.

  1. Sounds like you've a bad ignition coil pack and it runs okay if cold started bec the coil pack isn't overheated internally but if hot already then the coil pack shorts out and causes no spark.

I'd be courious to test for spark when engine is hot and trying to start it, also you can feel the ignition coil before starting it up cold and then see if coil seems to get warm fast, plus once parked engine off feel it again and also try to start it up and see if the coil is getting hotter.

Another suggestion here to save headaches is either to test the ignition coil with a meter or make up a diagram and label the sparkplug wires then unbolt the ignition coil, remove it by unplugging it and check it over for any cracks , bulges or diss-colourings.If you find it's cracked etc then I'd go to a big do it yourself auto wreckers and pick the best ignition coil out that I can find.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way it's funny you mention 2 hrs bec the average engine cools off within 2 to 4 hrs. Also if you're not finding the engine is running hot at all I highly suspect the ignition coil is the cause here but even a main comp or sensor can cause these strange type of starting problems and even a bad ground to one of the comps or faulty engine ground can cause these types of problems so I do suggest you over all the alternator , battery , starter ,  ignition coil plugin connections, wiring terminals inside the bottom of the fuse panel or on its sides etc.Basically by using assorted small wire brushes, a file , fine sandpaper you could over all a lot of rusty and corroded etc connections on that vehicle that I bet are affecting it a lot.

One last note bec Dodge is famous for wiring issues besure you check the wiring going to the ignition coil closely and all the wires leading to sesnsors etc and I'd be cleaning the contacts on all the sensors too.Don't be afraid to even create brand new grounds with o-ring connectors and the proper gauged wire , plus you can replace any old ground screws with a new s***w too.But basically don't let old rusty screws etc drive you crazy or cause you too much time , instead if having troubling screws bec of rust , just replace the ground with a brand new fresh one.
