Been having trouble putting it into gear and key has been sticking into ignition for quite some time. Just began stalling recently and now it won't start but does turn over.

  1. Its probably the security sensor in the ignition switch. You will have to replace the ignition switch and cylinder. GM will code the cylinder to match your current keys.

  2. The key thing and the current no-start problem are two different problems.  The biggest culprit on that particular vehicle that has those symptoms (stalling/no start) is the fuel pump in the tank.

    Probably a bad fuel pump.

  3. Most likely, the biggest problem with the vehicle is that it was made by General Motors Corproation.

    The Chevrolet Blazer has been on Consumer Reports' list of the Worst of the Worst for many years, including its 2008 list.

    AutoOnInfo.net's detailed reliability and durability studies suggest that a typical 7-year-old Chevrolet is as troublesome to own as a typical 34-year-old Toyota and a typical 48-year-old Honda. Your vehicle is well over 7 years old and I haven't seen any 60+-year-old Hondas or 50+-year-old Toyotas on the highway. Consequently, it was likely time to recycle the Blazer several years ago, if not the moment it came off the assembly line.

    When you do recycle it, it's probably wise to take a look at a Honda CR-V or Toyota RAV4.

  4. Older vehicles can present many challenges.

    I do belive that two of the problems maybe related; If the vehicle will not go into gear properly then it maybe affecting the park nutral safety switch which would prevent you from get it to do anything.

    Have you tried starting it in nutral. You maybe able to place gear in nutral but not in park fully. Alowing the switch to make proper contact with starting system.

    Failure to start, but engine will turn over possible causes;

    #1 no fuel possible causes (a) tank empty (b) blocked fuel line dirt in tank (c) fuel filter needs to be replaced. (d) fuel not pumping check for vacuum leeks etc...

    #2 Little or no spark (a) spray all wires with silicon spray to force moisture out of wires (b) loose or disconnected wire, check connectors at and around battery posts clean connectors and battery posts  (c) faulty or old spark plugs and or spark plug wire (if you change do only one at a time to avoid changing firing order).

    #3 Neutral safety switch (a) switch or connectors worn out (b) switch does not make connection due to poor or stiff linkage on transmission. Try lubricating linkage and check for damage that might cause physical obstruction (c) try starting in neutral position.

    #4 faulty ignition switch (a) mechanical part worn out fails to engage electrical switch (b) Electrical ignition switch no longer functions and needs to be replaced.

    Any random combination of the above could cause or contribute to this problem! As well there maybe other condition I have failed to mention.

    Vehicale stalled;

    This could have been caused by any number of reason including some of the above. In addition change the air filter and PCV valve.

  5. Call the locksmith. You need your ignition switch replaced.
