My A/C on my 1996 saturn is acting up 4 ON THE FLOOR SEEM TO BE GOING IN AND OUT?

what could be the possible problem with my a/c. It seems to be having the compressor go on and off more than usuall and it is getting a bit warmer the air. It was always working just fine and now its not. I can feel the compresor try to go on or off more than usual is it the compresor it about to go out or some other problem? any infor is of great appreciation.

it is low on r134   , or the compressor is getting ready to die
