My ABS brake light is on. I just put new pads and rotors on front and back. No leaks but the fluid?

level was a little low. The car needs to pass a NYS vehicle inspection.

Will it pass like this?

How can I detect the problem?

Thanks for any help.

  1. Frank may be right, was the ABS on before or after you did the brakes? If before then your issue is not related and you may actually have something wrong with the ABS which requires a shop with special tools to check. ABS light is not a item of inspection in Texas not sure about NY.

  2. After installing new pads/rotors, did you pump up brakes vigorously to rebuild pressure? Also, did you know that you have ABS sensors at each wheel that should be cleaned periodically ?

  3. If they're like Maryland and plug and obd2 reader in and scan codes you're going to get hit.  Why don't you buy and inexpensive scan reader for yourself and turn the code off and see if it stays off.  Then if it does you can get your inspection.

  4. more than likely you have a bad front wheel sensor for the ABS brakes but you will need to take it to a mechanic to find out for sure which sensor is bad,you can pull the fuse to the ABS system to disable it and the light to pass your vehicle inspection if you can't get to a mechanic before you get the inspection, your brakes will just act like normal brakes without the system working.

  5. Bleed the system at the divertor valve>where the switch is at under the brake cylinder>then all the breaks need to be bleed again>

  6. if u had air in the system then the brake light would be on .not the abs retards and u dont get air in your system by changing brakes,go get it scanned

  7. You knocked off or bent a little connector when you changed your pads. Go buy, or read in the store, the manual for this car. Hopefully, you didn't break the speed sensor on any or all the wheels. So much for saving money by doing it yourself. RTFM as engineers say. You can look at the X rated link below if you don't know what that means.

  8. depending on the make and model, you may need to recenter the proprtional valve.
